With your own transport you can follow the single-track road from Loen for 17km up along a beautiful valley with the glacial Lovatnet lake down below. After about 10km, the road gets rougher and hairier as it worms its way on to the car park and cafe at the road's end. From here, it's a rocky 3km walk to the foot of the Kjenndalsbreen , whose blue and white folds of ice tumble down the rockface, split by fissures and undermined by a furious foaming river fed by plummeting waterfalls. This part of the glacier is popular with visitors, but it's not as big a target of day-tripping coaches as the Briksdalsbreen nodule further to the south. The 24km-long side road to the Briksdalsbreen car park begins at OLDEN , 7km south of Loen on Hwy 60. From the car park, the footpath leads up the valley for around 3km, passing waterfalls and weaving up the river on the way. Once there it's a simple matter to get close to the ice itself: there's a very flimsy rope barricade and a small warning sign - "Be careful!" Guided glacier walks begin at the souvenir/cafe area by the start of the track.
