Having explored Luxembourg City, you may want to get out to see something of the rest of the Grand Duchy , about two-thirds of which is feasibly visited on day-trips, especially with a car. To the north, the first major rail junction is Ettelbruck , within easy striking distance by bus of some of the country's finest scenery. Here, confined by the Sure River, which forms the border between Luxembourg and Germany, is an area of thickly wooded hills and rocky valleys known optimistically as Petite Suisse or "Little Switzerland". Echternach has long been the main centre of this region and, along with picturesque Vianden further north, is the best base for nosing round the Luxembourg Ardennes.
