Information and Maps
Most of Lithuania's major towns now have tourist offices run by the state tourist board ( www.tourism.lt ), often offering accommodation listings and events calendars in English. Otherwise the In Your Pocket guide series (available from bookshops, newsstands, tourist offices and some hotels; 4Lt) is the most indispensable source for practical information, with separate publications covering Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda, each of which includes serviceable city maps. The Kummerly & Frey 1:1,000,000 map of the Baltics includes Lithuania in some detail along with a basic street plan of Vilnius. If you're planning to travel extensively in Lithuania the Euromap 1:300,000 map of the country is a useful investment. Serviceable regional maps produced by local companies are available in bookshops and newspaper kiosks once you arrive. The Jana Seta plan of Vilnius comes as either fold-out map or spiral-bound city atlas, and includes public transport.
