Outside Vilnius Lithuania is predominantly rural - a gently undulating, densely forested landscape scattered with lakes. However, it does boast at least one more major city in Kaunas , a genuine rival to Vilnius in terms of its historical importance to the Lithuanian nation. Further west, the main highlight of the Lithuanian coast is the holiday village of Nida , whose dramatic dunescapes and traditional timber architecture are reachable by ferry and bus from Klaipeda , the country's major port.
