For a taste of the rest of Latvia, a number of destinations within easy reach of Riga make feasible day-trips from the capital. Northeast of Riga are the small towns of Sigulda and Cesis , which lie at the heart of the Gauja National Park (Gaujas Nacionalais Parks), a 920-square-kilometre forested region, while Rundale Palace , 80km to the south of the city, is one of the architectural highlights of Latvia.
