Heading south of Wicklow towards Arklow on the R750, you'll come to a string of white-sand beaches . The one at Brittas Bay , just north of Mizen Head, is particularly good - don't be put off by the caravan site, there's plenty of seclusion to be found. Horticultural enthusiasts should also know about Mount Usher Gardens (mid-March to Oct daily 10.30am-6pm; GBP3.50/?4.44), a few miles inland near Ashford, where rare trees, shrubs and flowers grow in profusion in a narrow strip next to the road. For others, the gardens' main attraction may be the miniature suspension bridges where you can see engineering principles at work as they sway and bounce under your weight.
