Practicalities
Getting to Russborough is no problem - BLESSINGTON , the pleasant coaching town it adjoins, is forty minutes from central Dublin on the Waterford bus . There's a central tourist office (June Mon-Fri 10am-5pm; July & Aug Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat 11am-5pm; tel 045/865850), which has information on possibilities for outdoor pursuits . A wide range - including canoeing, sail-boarding, pony-trekking and hill-walking - is available at Blessington Land and Water Sports (tel 045/865092). Blessington's marvellous location close to the shining waters of the Blessington lakes and, beyond them, the spectacular heights of the Wicklow Mountains, should make it a good base for exploration; however, accommodation and places to eat are rather limited. The informal Courtyard Restaurant (closed Wed) is a good spot for snacks, lunches and evening meals; O'Connor's serves excellent bar food. A few miles out of town, there's the An Oige Baltyboys hostel , on the wooded shores of the lake (tel 045/867266; closed weekdays Dec-Feb; limited access between 10am-5pm).
