At Old Kilcullen , seven miles south of Naas, three high crosses set in green, rolling farmland attest to ancient histories. It's the site of an early Celtic monastery, and nearby stands an evocative round tower damaged during the 1798 Rebellion. Further south along the N9, there are more monuments to Ireland's ancient heritage at Moone and Castledermot, and northwestwards on taking the R418 at Kilkea; but first it's well worth stopping off at the village of Ballitore about seven miles south of Old Kilcullen.
