Two rivers, the Nore and the Barrow , flowing magnificently through rich countryside, have long been of immense importance to the southeast. Formerly they were the chief means of communication, bringing prosperity to the heart of the region: the Nore brought trade to medieval Kilkenny, the Barrow to Carlow. Today they are treasured for their considerable beauty and are a real treat for anglers. The surrounding countryside is extremely pretty, perfectly enjoyed on bike or on foot - the South Leinster Way dips down into some of the choicest spots. Plan a leisurely route, and you can meander through picturesque ancient villages and take in exceptional medieval ruins. There's a concentration of high-quality craft workshops here too - including those of Jerpoint Glass and the potter Nicholas Mosse - pick up a leaflet on the Kilkenny Craft Trail from the tourist office for further information.
