The Clare Glens on the Limerick-Tipperary border is a beautiful area of flowing falls, parts of which you can swim in: it makes a great day's excursion for cyclists. Head for Moroe (sometimes spelt Murroe), about ten miles east of the city; Clare is two miles north of this. A circular ride of some twenty miles could take this in, along with Glenstal Abbey and the village of CASTLECONNELL , a well-known Irish-music and Irish-language centre in a scenic setting on the banks of the Shannon some seven miles from Limerick. Coillte Forest Park , sixteen miles west of the city, has a well-equipped campsite , the Curragh Chase Caravan and Camping Park (closed mid-Sept to March; tel 061/396349), picnic site, arboretum and the ruins of the home of poet Aubrey de Vere. To the south, it's not much further to Lough Gur and Adare .
