Taxis, Minicabs and Car-parking
Taxis , based at the main rank in Donegall Square East and other points throughout the city, charge a minimum GBP2, which rapidly starts to increase on the meter if you're going any distance. Or you can phone a minicab (try Blue Star Cabs on tel 028/9024 3118, or Value Cabs on tel 028/9032 0000) - these are a good idea late at night as passing taxis are hard to grab. There are also black taxis based at the revitalized Smithfield area of Castle Street which normally travel along set routes into Catholic West Belfast, picking up and dropping passengers anywhere along the way; similar cabs servicing Protestant areas leave from slightly further north on North Street. If you're driving , you need to be careful about where you park : there are still a few city-centre control zones (clearly marked with black-and-yellow signs), where parking is not permitted for security reasons, although these have almost all been phased out throughout the North. You'll find plenty of car parks, however, and pay-and-display parking operates in many of the streets. Following a number of recent arson attacks, you'd be strongly advised if you're driving a car with Republic of Ireland plates to seek secure, off-street parking at night.
