East Mayo is dominated by the devotional shrine at Knock , which is easy to visit as an international airport at nearby Charlestown was built in 1986. However, if you're not a believer, or religious kitsch isn't a strong enough draw, you're best off heading south to the more engaging and historically rich towns of Cong and its unique abbey, and Loughmask with its big house, once the home of the infamous landlord Charles Boycott.
