The River
If you want to get out onto the water, at nearby Woodquay (cross the Salmon Weir Bridge at the cathedral, turn left and walk a little way along Waterside Street) you can either rent a rowing boat (May-Sept) or take the Lough Corrib river cruise (daily 2.30pm & 4.30pm; tel 091/592447; GBP6/7.62), which goes five miles up the river through flat countryside punctuated by derelict castles, out into the open expanse of the lough.
