Kenmare is an affluent tourist town and, while this means there's a good range of places to eat , prices - particularly for bar food - do tend to be more expensive than elsewhere. You will have no problem finding a decent pub to drink in and catch some traditional Irish music: The Square Pint , on the Square, is one of the best spots for traditional music in Kerry, and others worth trying include The Wander Inn on Henry Street, and Moeran's , off the top of Main Street. An Leath Phingin , 35 Main St (tel 064/41559). Excellent Italian-Irish restaurant with a cosy cottage interior, serving fresh pasta, stone-oven pizzas, and oak-wood fired barbecued meats. The Bean and Leaf , 4 Rock St, off Main St. Charming bookshop and cafe serving good coffee and pastries, which also offers Internet access. Closed Sun & Mon and Nov-March. Cafe Indigo , The Square, above The Square Pint (tel 064/42356, www.cafe-indigo.com ). Contemporary, eclectic menu including delicious dishes such as roast sea scallops on a herb and asparagus risotto, and lamb cutlets with herb polenta. The New Delight , Henry St. A warm and welcoming vegetarian cafe serving inexpensive wholesome snacks such as filled pittas and baguettes, open sandwiches and soups, along with more substantial meals such as lentil koftas and aubergine bake. Organic wine and herb teas quench your thirst. The Purple Heather , Henry St. A traditional pub that serves good bar food. The interesting menu includes homemade chicken liver pate with cumberland sauce, crab salad and Cashel blue cheese sandwich with walnut salad. The Square Pint , The Square. This very pleasant bar has a contemporary interior, and offers great bar food which comes from the Cafe Indigo kitchen upstairs. Try the chargrilled chicken with Parmesan shavings and roasted pine kernels. The Wander Inn , 2 Henry St. A large and popular pub serving traditional pub meals such as bacon and cabbage, roasts, homemade burgers and pizzas. Wharton's Chipper , Main St, no sign, but located two doors up from An Leath Phingin . A good-value fast-food option - with seating upstairs - open till 2 or 4am. Traditional fish and chips; the fish is fresh and the chips homemade.
