Eating and Drinking
For its size, Dingle has a high proportion of upmarket restaurants, a number of them noted for seafood. More affordable meals are available in several pubs and a handful of cafes. Adam's , Main St. Characterful old-style bar with an up-beat atmosphere serving inexpensive and delicious homemade soups, open sandwiches, and fresh crab salads. An Cafe Liteartha , Dykegate Lane. Wholly unpretentious bookshop-cafe that stocks both Irish and English language editions (politics and local interest are both well represented) to the gentle sounds of pleasant Irish music. The no-nonsense food focuses on delivering very cheap tea, coffee, scones and sandwiches (ham, cheese, beef). The Chart House , The Mall (tel 066/915 2255). Informal, upmarket restaurant with a fine reputation for its imaginative menus, which might feature cajun-spiced monkfish, saffron roast turbot with sun-dried tomato mash and salsa verde, or pan-fried guinea fowl. Call ahead for a reservation. Closed Tues. Doyle's Seafood Restaurant , John St (tel 066/915 1174). There's great seafood to be had all around the Kerry coast, and in Dingle Doyle's is the most famous place to sample the delights of the deep. Evenings only. The Global Village , Main St. True to the name, the menu revolves around a wide-ranging mix of influences gleaned during the proprietor's world travels. Breakfasts are tasty, lunches are light and inexpensive. Evening meals are a little pricey. The laid-back atmosphere makes this a great place to chill. Maire de Barra's , Strand St. Regular smoky pub catering for tourists, and generally very busy. Plenty of filling pub grub, including beef casserole, lasagne and chips, and homely puddings like rhubarb pie to satisfy sweet cravings. Food served till 9pm in summer. The Oven Doors and Dingle Tea Rooms , Holyground. Handy cafe and pizza restaurant right in the town centre serving tea and scones, salads and fabulous cakes along with its inexpensive pizza menu. Open till 8.30pm, depending on business.
