Practicalities
Accommodation possibilities in Killybegs include the elegant Bay View Hotel (tel 073/31950, www.bayview.com ; GBP110-130/?139.67-165.07), overlooking the harbour, and there are rooms in a number of pubs, including Cope House , Main St (tel 073/31834, copehouse@ireland.com ; GBP70-90/?88.88-114.28), and the Pier Bar (tel 073/31045; GBP33-40/?41.90-50.79). The former also has a popular Chinese restaurant. Most of the B&Bs are a mile or two out of town on Fintra Road, heading west towards Kilcar. Melly's Cafe , by the harbour, is a local institution and the best place for cheap snacks and fast food , though the nearby Galley restaurant is a pleasant alternative. Otherwise, you can grab a lunch in any of the pubs, including fresh seafood in the Harbour Bar ; for something slightly more upmarket, try the brasserie at the Bay View Hotel . As for evening entertainment, most of the bars have music at weekends. McGeehan's buses (tel 075/46150) leave from outside the Pier Bar for Ardara and Dublin: enquire at Hegarty's grocery shop by the bus stop.
