Practicalities
Glencolmcille's tourist office (June-Aug daily 10am-6pm; tel 073/30116) is in the Lace House craft shop on the main street. B&B accommodation is available at Brackendale (tel 073/30038; GBP26-33/?33.01-41.90) and Corner House (April-Sept; tel 073/30021; GBP33-40/?41.90-50.79), both in Cashel. You can catch the sunset at the beautifully positioned Dooey Hostel (tel 073/30130, dooeyhostel@oceanfree.net ) set high above the fine shingle strand at the mouth of the valley; it also offers camping . To get there on foot, keep on the village road as far as the Folk Village, and then take a path up to the left; in wet weather the longer route by road may be easier. The tea house at the Folk Village does moderately priced food , though the most popular place for lunch and evening meals is An Bradan Feasa , part of the Foras Cultuir Uladh complex. Another option is the Lace House Restaurant above the shop, with freshly baked bread and evening meals. The bars here are often quiet during the week, though tend to come alive at weekends, especially if the superb fiddler James Byrne plays at Roarty's , and during the fiddle festival at the beginning of August.
