The rich farming land of East Donegal may seem bland in contrast to other parts of the county and, certainly, it's the area's urban communities which offer the greater attractions. Letterkenny is Donegal's boom town, seemingly increasing in size and prosperity daily; it's also the hub of the county's public transport network. To its south lie Ballybofey and Stranorlar (known as "the twin towns"), the border town of Lifford and the former ecclesiastical centre of Raphoe with its nearby Beltany stone circle , one of Ireland's major Neolithic remains.
