Practicalities
There's a new tourist office by the bridge on Main Street (July & Aug daily 9am-8pm; rest of year Mon-Sat 9am-6pm; tel 072/41350) but you should have no trouble finding accommodation . The least expensive place to stay in Bundoran is the Homefield hostel , Bayview Ave (tel 072/41288, homefield@indigo.ie ), an activity and equestrian centre often full of hearty young groups; to get to it, cross the bridge into the West End and turn left at the church shortly afterwards. B&Bs are plentiful, and several in the West End have wonderful views of Donegal Bay: Avondale , Bay View Terrace (tel 072/41091; GBP33-40/?41.90-50.79); Conway House , almost next door (March-Sept; tel 072/41220; GBP26-33/?33.01-41.90); and Bayview Guesthouse , Main St (tel 072/41296; GBP33-40/?41.90-50.79). Best-known of the numerous hotels is the huge old Great Northern (tel 072/41204; GBP110-130/?139.67-165.07), dominating the golf course right on the headland. Among other options are the popular Allingham Arms (tel 072/41075, allingham@tyrconnell-group.ie ; GBP90-110/?114.28-139.67) and the Holyrood Hotel (tel 072/41100, hrood@indigo.ie ; GBP70-90/?88.88-114.28) on either side of the bridge. Bike rental is available from the Hire and Sell Centre, East End (tel 072/41526). For eating , the Angler's Restaurant provides a reasonably priced three-course meal. More upmarket, but still not too expensive, is the Fitzgerald Hotel , just over the bridge in the West End, and the Whistling Oyster , on the main street, serving varied seafood dinners in a bar-room setting. The Imperial Hotel in the West End serves good value bar lunches while La Sabbia (attached to the Homefield hostel) offers a splendid Italian option. There are plenty of simple cafes like the Kitchen Bake , in a converted chapel on the main street, for excellent cakes, coffee and snacks. Most pubs in Bundoran are pretty ordinary and permanently crowded with northern holidaymakers in high season. For sessions in summer, try The Bridge Bar or The Chasin' Bull on Main Street. The Planet Earth complex on Central Avenue hosts very popular discos , with coachloads arriving from all over the county and beyond.
