Eating, Drinking and Nightlife
The town has several decent places to eat : for inexpensive breakfasts and lunches check out Russwurm's deli, 38 Ashe St. An Sugan , 41 Wolfe Tone St, does good bar food. Fionnuala's, 30 Ashe St, is an inexpensive and cosy Italian restaurant, while the nearby Druid's Table , 12 Ashe St, offers its customers an imaginative menu of seafood, lamb and vegetarian dishes (tel 023/33310; dinner from around GBP12/?15.24). Clonakilty is noted for its black puddings (a sausage made from the blood of pigs with a warm peppery flavour), and you may well find it dished up at breakfast in your hotel or B&B; if you're self-catering, and fancy giving it a go, it's well worth it - you'll be able to get some at any one of the local butchers. Finally, there are plenty of excellent old bars : for music De Barra's on Pearse Street is probably the most popular place, with traditional or rock music more or less every night. An Teach Beag (behind O'Donovan's Hotel ) has traditional music every night during July and August, and at weekends throughout the year. O'Donovan's Hotel hosts live bands every night during July and August - anything from rock 'n' roll and ceilidhs to ballroom dancing; look out too for their gigantic 130-year-old polyphon - a kind of proto-jukebox, which still works.
