Although most people head straight for the coast, inland Cork , aside from providing a quick route west, does have its merits, and, unless you yearn for the sea, it's just as beautiful. The main tourist attraction is the famous historic town of Blarney , close to the scenic Lee Valley; it makes a pleasurable stop on your way westwards or an easy day-trip from Cork city. Further inland, the Boggeragh Mountains and the route from Macroom to Bantry provide opportunities for gentle walking.
