Bodega , Coal Quay. Cork's most stylish bar, worth calling in for its wonderfully bold interior alone; Mediterranean-influenced menu. The Crawford Municipal Art Gallery Cafe , Emmet Place (tel 021/427 4415). The gallery's cafe is an affordable offshoot of Ballymaloe House restaurant near Cloyne, famous for taking traditional Irish cooking to new heights . The Douglas Hyde , Douglas Street. The pun should give it away - the most civilized bar in Cork, with fine art on the walls, clean and comfy furniture, laid-back ambience and top-notch bar food: filled crepes, fabulous fish cakes, smoked salmon and beautiful fruit tarts. Meals here start at around GBP6/?7.62. The Farm Gate Cafe , upstairs in The English Market, Princes St. Great for affordable lunches and teas: lots of Mediterranean salads, savoury tarts, and plenty of seafood, with the emphasis on using fresh, local produce; in line with tradition, they also serve tripe and drisheen (a kind of black pudding). Listen to the pianist as you eat and watch the market below. Closed Sun. Fellinni's , Carey's Lane. Comfortably dishevelled cafe atmosphere with papers to read and seating inside and out; soups, filled pittas for around GBP5/?6.35, coffees and teas. One of the few places open all day on a Sunday. The Gingerbread House , Paul St. Great cafe for soaking up the Paul Street scene. Tasty baguettes, tartlets, soups and coffees and breakfast until 3pm Sunday. Daily till 10pm. Gino's , Winthrop St. Good cheap pizzas and homemade ice cream. Kafka's , 7 Maylor St. Great veggie and non-veggie breakfasts, and a huge range of tasty baguettes, burgers, sandwiches and coffee. Handy for the bus station. Closed Sun. The Other Place , 8, South Main St. Offshoot of The Quay Co-op ; cheap vegetarian cafe and gay meeting place. Open Mon-Sat 9am-9pm. The Quay Co-op , 24 Sullivan's Quay (tel 021/431 7026). Delicious, large vegetarian and vegan meals, soups, puddings and teas, all in surroundings of wonderfully faded elegance. Self-service. Closed Sun. Tribes , Tuckey St. Smoky coffee bar for trendy diehards. Over thirty varieties of coffee, and many herbal teas. Closed Sun. Yumi Yuki Club , Triskel Arts Centre, Tobin St, off South Main St (tel 021/427 5777). Oriental off-shoot of the inimitable Ivory Tower , offering sushi and saki in a playful club setting. Two-course lunchtime specials for around GBP7/?8.89; expect to pay around GBP15/?19.05 for three courses in the evening.
