Eating, Drinking and Entertainment
For its size, Baltimore offers a very good range of places to eat , and you can expect the quality to be high. For excellent barfood there's Bushe's Bar , by the harbour, and Casey's about a mile out on the main road; the latter also has an excellent restaurant noted for its seafood (dinner around GBP25/?31.74). Cafe Art (tel 028/20289; closed Oct-March), alongside Rolf 's hostel, encourages relaxed dining: tasty pastas, Mediterranean salads, stir frys and similar fare are on offer, and no one minds if you sit down for a full meal or take just one course; the garden is an especially nice place to eat in fine weather. La Jolie Brise , right down by the harbour, is a cafe serving inexpensive breakfasts, excellent pizzas and Sherkin Island oysters. The Australian-run Customs House Restaurant (tel 028/20200) specializes in seafood and organic produce and has an excellent reputation. Baltimore has a lively pub scene during the summer: Declan McCarthy's and, again, Bushe's Bar are a couple of lively spots overlooking the harbour; McCarthy's hosts traditional, folk and ballad sessions several nights a week in summer. Around a mile from the quays, and well worth considering if you are staying up that end of town, is Casey's , a cosy characterful place with traditional music on Saturdays and during the summer on Sundays, too.
