Getting There From Britain and Ireland
Until recently, Iceland was one of the most expensive countries in Europe to reach from Britain, due in large part to Icelandair, Iceland's national airline, holding a monopoly on the route. Furthermore, the lengthy ferry journey from Scotland, via the Shetland and Faroe Islands to Iceland's east coast port, Seydisfjordur, is very expensive. However, in 2000, the low-cost airline GO began summer-only flights into Iceland's international airport, Keflavik, and prices have since tumbled as Icelandair brought its fares broadly in line with those offered by its new rival
