The VIII district - otherwise known as Jozsefvaros (Joseph Town) - is separated from the VII district by Rakoczi ut, which runs out to Keleti Station, and from the Belvaros by Muzeum korut, part of the Kiskorut. Nicknamed "Chicago" during the 1920s and 1930s, this area has a mixed reputation, being the site of prestigious institutions but also traditionally a red-light and thieves' quarter. Muzeum korut resembles Andrassy ut in miniature, lined with trees, shops and imposing piles, as it curves around to meet Kalvin ter. Immediately beyond the East-West business centre by the Astoria junction stands the natural sciences faculty of ELTE university ( Eotvos Lorand Tudomanyos-egyetem ), whence a group of scientists who worked on the US atomic bombs graduated before World War II, including Edward Teller, the "Father of the Hydrogen Bomb". Further on and across the street, a substantial crenellated section of the medieval wall of Pest can be seen in the courtyard of no. 21. The walls gradually disappeared as the city was built up on either side, but fragments remain here and there.
