Best of all there's the Rail Heritage Park ( Magyar Vasuttorteneti Park ; Tues-Sun: May-Oct 10am-6pm; Nov-March 10am-3pm; 800Ft, family 1600Ft, cameras 200Ft, videocameras 800Ft) in the freight yards of the XVI district. Its sheds and sidings house over seventy kinds of locomotives and carriages from 1900 onwards, and at certain times of the day (10am-12.15pm & 1.30-5.30pm) you can even drive a steam train (1000Ft) or a luggage cart (300Ft) - wear old clothes. Many of the staff are ex-employees of MAV (Hungarian State Railways), proud of a tradition inherited from the Royal Hungarian Railways. The museum above the information centre displays information in Hungarian only, but all kinds of train books, videos and MAV souvenirs are sold downstairs. From April to October, you can travel to the museum by steam train ( kulonvonat ) from Nyugati Station (Tues-Sun 9.45am-3.45pm); tickets are available from MAV Nosztalgia in the station, or Belgrad rakpart 26 in the Belvaros ( www.mavnosztalgia.hu ). Otherwise, the park gates at Tatai ut 95 are a short walk from the Rokolya utca stop, a longish ride by bus #20 or #30 from Keleti Station or Dozsa Gyorgy ut.
