Kastellorizo's austere hinterland is predominantly bare rock, flecked with stunted vegetation; incredibly, two or three generations ago much of the countryside was carefully tended, producing wine of some quality and in quantity. A rudimentary paved road system links points between Mandhraki and the airport, but there aren't many specific places on it to visit and no scooters for rent. Karstic cliffs drop sheer to the sea, offering no anchorage for boats except at the main town, Mandhraki and Navlakas fjord
