Andiparos Practicalities

Practicalities

To get to Andiparos, you have a choice of boats from Parikia (hourly; 40min), arriving at the jetty opposite the main street, or the car ferry from Pounda (every 30min; 10min), arriving 150m to the south. In season there's no need to use the car ferry unless you take a scooter over or miss the last boat back to Parikia; the car ferry keeps running until midnight. The service to Parikia is reduced out of season and runs only once a day in winter.

There are plenty of hotels along the waterfront, including Anargyros (tel 02840/61 204; ?24-33), which has good, basic rooms. More upmarket places to the north of the jetty include Mantalena (tel 02840/61 206; ?34-72) and Artemis (tel 02840/61 460; ?43 and upwards), while inland there are some cheaper rooms as well as the Hotel Galini (tel 02840/61 420; ?24-72) to the left of the main street. The popular campsite (tel 02840/61 221) is a ten-minute walk northeast along a track, next to its own nudist beach; the water here is shallow enough for campers to wade across to the neighbouring islet of Dhiplo. For peace and quiet with a degree of comfort try Studios Delfini (tel 093/275 911; ?43-58) at Ayios Yeoryios, a long stretch of beach with several tavernas, of which Captain Pipinos is recommended.

The best of the waterfront tavernas is Anargyros , below the hotel of the same name. The main street leads up beside it, and Klimataria , 100m inland off to the left, has tables in a pleasant, shady garden. The Corner Cafe , also on the main street, has excellent coffee. To Kastro is one of the better restaurants outside the kastro , where you'll also

find the excellent To Kendro sweetshop. There are plenty of bars around this eucalyptus-filled platia, where a festive atmosphere prevails at night. Cafe Margarita is a pleasant street-side hangout on the way up to this platia. For quiet music and views of the mountains try Cafe Yam , an outdoor cafe-bar near the Klimataria . A short-schedule bank , a post office , a cinema and several travel agents round up the list of amenities.
