When you finally emerge from the gorge, it's not long before you reach the singularly unattractive village of AYIA ROUMELI , which is all but abandoned until you reach the beach, a mirage of iced drinks and a cluster of tavernas with rooms for rent. If you want to get back to Hania, buy your boat tickets now, especially if you want an afternoon on the beach; the last boat (connecting with the final 6.30pm bus from Hora Sfakion) tends to sell out first. If you plan to stay on the south coast, you should get going as soon as possible for the best chance of finding a room somewhere nicer than Ayia Roumeli.
