TRAINS Trains for Korinthos and the Peloponnese leave from the Stathmos Peloponnissou , those for northern Greece from Stathmos Larissis . The stations adjoin each other, just west of Deliyanni, on the #1 trolleybus route. To reach the Peloponnese station, use the metal overpass next to the Larissis station. The new Inter-City trains are considerably faster and more reliable but there is a hefty extra charge (also levied on rail passes). Destinations from Stathmos Peloponnissou include: Argos (6 daily; 3hr 10min); Kalamata (4 daily; 6hr 30min-8hr); Korinthos (12 daily; 1hr 30min-2hr); Patra (8 daily; 3hr 30min-4hr 30min); Pyrgos (7 daily; 5hr 30min-6hr 30min). Thessaloniki (10 daily; 6hr 10min-8hr); Volos (3 daily; 5-7hr). BUSES Attica Buses for most destinations in Attica leave from the Mavromateon terminal (250m north of the National Archeological Museum, at the junction with Leoforos Alexandhras). Exceptions are specified in the text. Destinations include: Lavrio (every 30min until 6pm, then hourly until 9pm; 1hr 30min); Marathon Tomb (every 30min until 2pm, hourly thereafter; 1hr 15min); Rafina (every 30min; 1hr); Sounion by the coast (hourly on the half-hour; 1hr 30min); Sounion by the inland route (hourly on the hour; 1hr 45min). Peloponnese and western/northern Greece Most buses leave from the terminal at Kifissou 100, a good 4km northeast of the city centre, in the industrial district of Peristeri; the easiest way to get there is on the #051 bus from the corner of Vilara and Menandhrou (near Omonia). Destinations include: Argos (hourly; 2hr 15min); Arta (8 daily; 6hr); Corfu (3 daily; 11hr); Igoumenitsa (3 daily; 8hr 30min); Ioannina (8 daily; 7hr 30min); Kalamata (10-11 daily; 4hr 30min); Kefallonia (4-5 daily; 8hr); Korinthos (every 30min; 1hr 30min); Lefkadha (4 daily; 6hr); Mycenae/Nafplio (hourly; 2hr 30min); Olympia (4 daily; 6hr); Patra (every 30min; 3hr); Pylos (2 daily; 6hr); Sparti (11 daily; 4hr); Thessaloniki (10 daily; 7hr 30min); Tripoli (12 daily; 3hr); Zakynthos (4 daily; 7hr). Central Greece Buses for most other destinations in central Greece leave from the Liossion 260 terminal, easiest reached by taxi. Alternatively, take either bus #024 at the Amalias entrance of the National Gardens (by Syndagma), or on Panepistimiou almost to the end of its route (about 25min; the stop is 200m south of the terminal); or the metro from Omonia/ Monastiraki to the Ayios Nikolaos station (800m southeast of the terminal; coming out, go under the rail line, turn left and look out for the buses). Destinations include: Ayios Konstandinos (hourly at quarter past the hour; 2hr 30min); Delphi (6 daily; 3hr); Halkidha (every 30min; 1hr 15min); Karpenissi (3 daily; 6hr); Kymi, for Skyros ferries (6 daily; 3hr 30min); Osios Loukas (2 daily; 4hr); Thiva/Thebes (hourly; 1hr 30min); Trikala (9 daily; 5hr 30min); Volos (9-12 daily; 5hr). ISLAND FERRIES AND HYDROFOILS Information For details of ferries from Rafina or Lavrio call their respective port police offices (Rafina: tel 02940/22 300; Lavrio: tel 02920/25 249). For hydrofoils call 02940/23 500 or 23 561. Pireas Ferries and hydrofoils to the Argo-Saronic, Monemvassia, Crete, the Cyclades, Dodecanese and northeast Aegean islands. Lavrio Ferries daily to Kea. Bus from Mavromateon. Rafina Ferries daily to Marmari and Karystos on Evvia; most days to Andhros, Tinos, Syros and Mykonos, plus less frequently to Paros, Naxos and Amorgos; and two or three weekly to Ayios Efstratios, Lesvos and Limnos. Hydrofoils to Evvia (Styra, Marmari and Karystos), Andhros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos and beyond. Many ferries from Rafina to the Cyclades leave in the late afternoon - a boon if you've missed the morning Pireas boats. Bus from Mavromateon. INTERNATIONAL FERRIES From Pireas Destinations include: Izmir or Cesme, Turkey (once weekly); Kusadas¦, Turkey (once weekly May-Oct); Limassol, Cyprus and Haifa, Israel (at least weekly), via Rhodes or Crete. DOMESTIC FLIGHTS Olympic Airways operates regular flights from the airport to the following destinations: Alexandhroupoli, Astypalea, Hania (Crete), Hios, Ikaria, Iraklion (Crete), Ioannina, Kalamata, Karpathos, Kastoria, Kavala, Kefallonia, Kerkyra (Corfu), Kos, Kozani, Kythira, Leros, Limnos, Milos, Mykonos, Mytilini (Lesvos), Naxos, Paros, Preveza, Rodhos (Rhodes), Samos, Sitia (Crete), Skiathos, Skyros, Syros, Thessaloniki, Thira (Santorini) and Zakynthos.
