The seventy kilometres of coast south of Athens - the tourist-board-dubbed " Apollo Coast " - has some good but highly developed beaches. At weekends, when Athenians flee the city, the sands fill fast, as do the innumerable bars, restaurants and discos at night. If this is what you're after, then resorts like Glyfadha and Vouliagmeni are functional enough. But for most foreign visitors, the coast's lure is at the end of the road, in the form of the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion . Access to Sounion (Sounio in the modern spelling) is straightforward. There are buses on the hour and half-hour from the KTEL terminal on Mavromateon at the southwest corner of the Pediou Areos Park; there's also a more central (but in summer, very full) stop ten minutes later at point "D" on Filellinon, south of Syndagma (corner of Xenofondos, in front of the Middle East Airways office). There are both coastal ( paraliako ) and inland ( mesoyiako ) services, the latter slightly longer and more expensive. The coast route normally takes around two hours; last departures back to Athens are posted at the Sounion stop. For Glyfadha/Voula and Vouliagmeni/Varkiza - the main resorts - take the #A3 trunk line from Syndagma or #E2 express bus from opposite the National gardens and transfer onto local services #114 and #115. The #A2 trunk-line bus for Glyfadha/Voula also leaves from Panepistimiou
