This section covers the Acropolis and the assorted Classical and Roman sites on its slopes ; the hills of the Pnyx and Philoppapus (Filopappou) over to the southwest; and the neighbouring Ancient Agora (marketplace) and Kerameikos (cemetery) to the northwest. This is essentially the core of the ancient, Classical Greek city, though a few further pockets and Roman extensions are covered in the Plaka section.
