former usually offer a full range of gutburgerliche Kuche , whereas the latter tend to have shortish menus of rather lighter fare. There are also some purely drinking dens, generally known as Kneipen. Apart from beer and wine, there's nothing very distinctive about German beverages, save for Apfelwein, a variant of cider. The most popular spirits are the fiery Korn and after-dinner liqueurs, which are mostly fruit-based. Both hot and soft drinks are broadly the same as in Britain.
