Practicalities
Frankfurt's Hauptbahnhof , itself a border crossing point, occupies an elevated position about ten minutes' walk southwest of the Altstadt. The tourist office (Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat 10am-12.30pm; tel 03 35/32 52 16, fax 2 25 65, www.frankfurt-oder.de ) lies just west of Marktplatz at Karl-Marx-Str. 8a. Though there's no particular reason to stay over, you can book private rooms (DM60/?30-DM99/?49) at the tourist office. There are three hotels in the town centre: Gallus , Furstenwalder Str. 47 (tel 03 35/5 61 50; DM80-99/?40-49); Zur Alten © 2003 by Rough Guides Ltd. as trustee for its Authors. Oder , Fischerstr. 32 (tel 03 35/55 62 20; DM125-149/?63-74); and City Park , Lindenstr.12 (tel 03 35/5 53 20; DM150-199/?75-99). All the hotels have restaurants , though the best place to eat is the Ratskeller in the historic cellars of the Rathaus, which includes vegetarian dishes on its menu. There's also a restaurant, Turm 24 , atop the town's lone skyscraper at Logenstr. 8, which, although a bit pricey, affords wonderful views of the surrounding greenery.
