The Musee de l'Histoirede France displays documents from the Archives Nationales de France. Highlights include a medieval English monarch's challenge to his French counterpart to stake his kingdom on a duel and written materials from Joan of Arc's trial proceedings, with a doodled impression of her in the margin. For most visitors, however, the museum is simply an opportunity to enter the Palais Soubise, perhaps the Marais' most splendid mansion, with some fine Rococo interiors, and paintings by the likes of Boucher.
