BAYEUX , with its perfectly preserved medieval ensemble, magnificent cathedral and world-famous tapestry, is 23km west of Caen - a mere twenty-minute train ride. It's a smaller and much more intimate city, and, despite the large crowds of summer tourists, a far more enjoyable place to visit.
