If you follow the Indre downstream from La Chatre, the river itself tends to be the only source of interest until you reach Loches - one exception being the Romanesque church in the pretty town of CHATILLON-SUR-INDRE , on the Touraine-Berry border. CHATEAUROUX , the largest town on the banks of the Indre and a local route hub, is a grey and officious sort of place, surrounded by supermarkets and petrol stations. However, it's a good spot to stock up on necessities if you are driving or biking through.
