Chateau D''usse
Fourteen kilometres west of Azay-le-Rideau, as the Indre approaches its confluence with the Loire, is the Chateau d'Usse in RIGNY-USSE (daily: mid-March to June & first three weeks Sept 9am-noon & 2-6/6.45pm; July & Aug 9am-6.30pm; Sept 21-Nov 11 9am-noon & 2-5.30pm; 59F/8.99). With its shimmering white towers and spires and idyllic wooded setting (best seen after dark when floodlit), this is the ultimate fairytale chateau, so much so that it's supposed to have inspired Charles Perrault's transcription of the Sleeping Beauty fairy story. Going inside for the visit - despite a display of models illustrating the Sleeping Beauty myth which might be of interest to children - isn't half as compelling, and perhaps not worth the rather excessive entrance fee.
chateau d'ussebethany says "okay everyone says that this is a beautiful castle and yes it is, but i hate france. and french. and the lanuage. sorry guys, this is my opinion, you guys just bother me. and this building is so so boring and i would recommend only going there once you've been everywhere else. this is nothing special, i repeat. nothing special."
