The City
The centre of Bourges sits on a hill rising from the River Yevre, in the shadow of its main attraction, the magnificent early Gothic cathedral. Having seen the cathedral, many people move straight on, but the rest of the city is worth at least a couple of hours of wandering. Bourges has its fair quota of ancient hotels and burghers' houses, displaying the wealth of a city that was built to rival the ruling provincial city of Dijon.
