Late-opening bars congregate around rue St-Laud - Bar du Centre , below Hotel Centre , and Le Louisiane , at no. 43, are the liveliest - and the other pedestrian streets around, and tend to have a young clientele. Over to the east of the city, the Spirit Factory , 14-16 rue Bressigny (open till 1am), is a cavernous bar, with beer brewed on the premises, serving late-night moules frites . Over the river in La Doutre, Le Rockmania , 18 bd Arago, has live French rock/fusion/ska (Thurs-Sat 11.30pm-2am), and, in the northern suburbs, Chabada , 56 bd du Doyenne (take bus #5) puts on live music; to find out about gigs, go to the FNAC record store on rue Lenepveu. For something more cerebral, check out the philosophy debates on Wednesday nights at Le Carpe Diem , a "cafe philosophe" at 15 rue St-Maurille (tel 02.41.87.50.47).
