There are two good routes from Carcassonne into the Montagne Noire , which forms the western extremity of the Parc Naturel Regional du Haut Languedoc : Carcassonne-Revel and Carcassonne-Mazamet by the valley of the Orbiel. Neither is served by public transport, but both offer superlative scenery.
