Moving south of the Crozon peninsula, you soon enter the ancient kingdom of Cornouaille . The most direct route to the region's principal city, Quimper , leaves the sea behind and heads due south, passing close to the unchanged medieval village of Locronan . However, if you can spare the time, it's worth following the supremely isolated coastline instead around the Baie de Douarnenez to the Pointe du Raz , the western tip of Finistere. With a few exceptions - most notably its "land's end" capes - this stretch of coast has kept out of the tourist mainstream, and nowhere does that hold more true than on the remarkable, remote Ile de Sein .
