Eating and Drinking
Restaurants in Colmar are generally overpriced, particularly Alsatian ones. However, Winstub Brenner , 1 rue de Turenne (tel 03.89.41.42.43; main course from 50F/?7.62; closed Tues evenings and Wed, second fortnight Jan, third week June & third week Nov), serves delicious, generous meals and has a lovely terrace by Little Venice - ask for a side order of pommes sautees if you're really hungry. A fun establishment for both food and atmosphere is S'Parisser Stewwele , 4 place Jeanne-d'Arc (tel 03.89.24.53.15; main course 60-70F/?9.15-10.67, or from 160F/?24.39 a la carte; closed Tues, second half of Feb, third week June & third week Nov), while a good place for regional food is Le Petit Gourmand on quai de la Poissonnerie, in Little Venice (tel 03.89.41.09.32; closed Mon & Tues evening; menus from 120F/?18.29). Otherwise, you could amass a sumptuous picnic from the town's numerous patisseries and charcuteries. There's a fruit and veg market every Thursday around the Koifhus at place de l'Ancienne-Douane, and every Saturday on place St-Joseph.
