Opposite Mont Blanc, the north side of Chamonix valley is enclosed by the lower but nonetheless impressive Aiguilles Rouges , with another teleferique to Le Brevent (15min; 82F/?12.51 return), the 2525-metre peak directly above the town. Classic walks this side of the valley include the Lac Blanc , starting from Les Praz and the Flegere teleferique (20min; 57F/?8.85 return), and the Grand and Petit Balcon Sud trails, giving spectacular views of Mont Blanc. A highly recommended two-day hike is the GR5 stage north from Le Brevent to the village of Sixt via Lac d'Anterne , with a night at the Refuge d'Anterne . The classic long-distance route is the two-week Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB), described in a Topoguide , Andrew Harvey's Tour of Mont Blanc and Chamonix-Mont Blanc: A Walker's Guide .
