Information and Maps
Most towns have some sort of tourist office , with free maps and information, which sometimes book accommodation. In summer they open daily, usually for long hours in more popular centres; in winter, opening hours will be much reduced, if they open at all. Specific opening hours are given in the text. The best general map of Finland is the Daily Telegraph one; there is also an excellent map in the Finland: Budget Accommodation booklet, available from tourist offices. Finland is very Internet-friendly. The best starting point is to check out the tourist office Web sites of the place you are visiting (listed in the guide) and browse for local links. Useful general sites include www.mek.fi , the official Finnish Tourist Board site, and www.finland.org , the Finnish embassy in USA site.
Traveler, USAFrank says "If you are visiting Helsinki but want to get out of the city to find out what country is really like, check out rudolfcity.com. I tried them on a day tour to Turku and visited out of the way places that I would never have found myself. It was the best experience of my Finland trip!"
