Estonians claim that their country is a hotbed of crime and that visitors run a routine risk of being robbed and murdered, particularly in Tallinn. The truth is that while there are problems with theft and street crime they're still at lower levels than in western Europe, and if you keep your wits about you and avoid staggering around the backstreets drunk after dark you should come to no harm. The Estonian police ( politsei ) are mostly very young and some may speak a little English, but don't bank on it. As far as health goes, though emergency health care is free in Estonia, the country's hospitals are under-equipped and if you fall seriously ill it's best to head for home if possible. No immunizations are required for Estonia.
