Trains and buses both arrive at Bradford Interchange (tel 01274/734833) on Croft Street, south of the city-centre grid. The tourist office (Mon-Fri 9am-5.30pm, Sat 9am-5pm; tel 01274/753678) is located in Centenary Square's City Hall. The best-value accommodation within half a mile of the centre is at the Ivy , 3 Melbourne Place (tel 01274/727060; no credit cards; under GBP40), and the New Beehive Inn , Westgate (tel 01274/721784; no credit cards; under GBP40). More luxurious digs are available at the Victorian-era Midland Hotel , on Forster Square (tel 01274/735735; GBP70-90), or the Quality Victoria Hotel , on Bridge Street (tel 01274/728706; GBP70-90). Bradford's large Asian population has made the city famous for its curry houses . General opinion still favours the Muslim Mumtaz , 386-392 Great Horton Rd (tel 01274/571861; no alcohol allowed), a twenty-minute walk up towards the university, where the food is sold by weight - a half-pound dish feeds two and the sweet lassi is legendary. Closer to town, the Kashmir , 27 Morley St (tel 01274/726513; open until 2am, 3am at weekends), claims to be Bradford's first-ever curry house. If you don't fancy, curry, then head for Le Cafe Bleu , North Parade, which offers a Mediterranean lunch in a small, friendly setting, or Italia Cafe , 344 Great Horton Rd, where home-made Italian bread and pastas are on the menu.
