Eating and Drinking
Second only to London in the breadth and scope of its cafes and restaurants , Manchester has something to suit everyone, from a cheap curry to a night out in a celebrity-chef hotspot. The bulk of Manchester's eating and drinking places are scattered around the city centre - Chinatown, in particular, can always be counted upon for a budget lunch or a late-night meal - while out at Rusholme you'll find the best range of curries this side of the Pennines. Meanwhile, Manchester's cafe-bar scene is its pride and joy. Many of those in the Gay Village, the Northern Quarter and Castlefield are reasonably laidback, though evenings always see the atmosphere ratcheted up a notch; while at the half-dozen places along Deansgate Locks (Whitworth Street West) or in the Printworks (Withy Grove) the emphasis is more on serious partying. Manchester also has a full complement of great pubs , including several Victorian classics that have stood the test of time.
