Just to the north of St Ann's Square, Exchange Square sits at the heart of the ambitious city-centre rebuilding programme launched following the devastating bomb of 1996. A pedestrian boulevard - New Cathedral Street - runs from St Ann's Square to the Cathedral, skirting the flanks of the flagship Marks & Spencer store whose gigantic glazed facade makes up the south side of Exchange Square. Two historic pubs, the Old Wellington Inn and Sinclair's Oyster Bar , both moved brick-by-brick to this new site, mop up some of the foot traffic at their outdoor tables. To the north, the old Corn Exchange has been refurbished completely, while retaining its historic facade and glass dome. Relaunched as the Triangle (reflecting the unusual shape of its interior), this is a rare wrong foot in the brave new Manchester: gone any sense of the building's tradition, replaced by yet another batch of retail outlets selling expensive shoes and Japanese rice bowls. Across Withy Grove, meanwhile, the former Mirror Building contains the futuristic Printworks , an adult "entertainment centre", complete with IMAX screen, cinema megaplex and various themed bars and restaurants.
