Chester's most popular attraction, Chester Zoo (daily: April-Sept 10am-6pm; Oct-March 10am-4pm; last admission 2hr before closing; GBP10; ), is the second largest in Britain and one of the best in Europe, with new attractions opening all the time. The zoo is well known for its conservation projects and has had notable success with its Asiatic lions, while recent additions include the giant komodo dragons - Chester is the only British zoo to support these creatures - and a new jaguar enclosure. Animals are grouped by region in large paddocks viewed from a maze of pathways or from the creeping monorail, with main attractions being the baby animals (elephants, giraffes and orang-utans), the rainforest habitat, the Twilight Zone bat cave and the Chimpanzee Forest. The zoo entrance is signposted off the A41 to the north of town and reached by buses #4, #14 or #40 (Mon-Sat; every 30min) from Chester's bus exchange, or the #11c and #12c (every 30min, Sun & public holidays) to Liverpool's Albert Dock. Merseyrail stations sell a combined train, bus and zoo-admission ticket (GBP12), using the #40 bus link from Bache Merseyrail station, one stop north of Chester.
